Day 8

Image
Today was the last day of our J-Term, we were completing the last ‘final look’ of the course. Many of us dived right into working on our makeup. However some of us spent the morning researching techniques and more ideas for our configuration. While we were doing this, in the background we watched more of the historical makeup documentary. When lunch time came around, many of us had made significant progress on our looks and technique.  After lunch, those of us who had not already started began to work. For our background noise this time, the youtuber Safiya Nygaard was playing. Over the past couple of years she has made numerous era makeup and clothing videos. Once the day was finished everyone had completed their fabulous looks. Everyone looked amazing and their hard work had definitely paid off. All of the pictures of our makeup looks are down below.

Day 7

Today, the second to last day of our J-Term, was a really exciting one. We had two ‘final looks’ to complete before the end of the course, so we had some options for how to spend our time. One of our options was to use the morning to do a test run of a look and then execute it in the afternoon, doing the same thing for the other look tomorrow. Another thing we could do was a test run of one look in the morning and one in the afternoon and then do both of the final looks tomorrow. We all chose to experiment with and finish designing look number one first thing in the morning and then take the rest of the day to complete it - planning to repeat the process for look number two tomorrow. As we worked in the morning, we had a documentary about historical makeup playing. The film was really cool and provided a lot of insight as to how people in different eras viewed makeup and what that told us about their societies. This was particularly relevant to the historical makeup that we had been

Day 6

Image
Today in the morning we mainly focused on certain ages of makeup and we were all given a period of makeup we needed to research and then make a presentation on it then present to the class. Jayla didthe 1920s, Sophia Watts did the 80s, Sabrina didthe 60s, Rachel did ancient Rome, Sonieya did ancient Egypt, Sophia O did the 40s and Kat did the 90s. We all applied the era of makeup we researched on our partner.

Day 5

Image
We started off the day with a presentation from Ms. Vasquez. She talked about the history of different art styles, the main four being Rocco, Impressionism, Surrealism, and Pop Art. Afterward, each of us chose one of those art styles and created our own makeup look, pulling together inspiration from online; a lot of us use Pinterest in this J-Term when creating inspo boards. The entire morning was allotted for these makeup looks, but some of them took longer than others and had to be finished after lunch. They all turned out amazing, though!  Sofia Watts wanted to do a rose created from scar wax, as can be seen below. This took them a lot of time and effort, but unfortunately, the scar wax became too heavy to be glued to the face. They ended up painting the rose on their face, and it still worked out wonderfully, even after facing challenges.  In the afternoon, we watched Dr. Who, as half of the group moved on to Mermaids makeup looks. The episode we watched had a siren, which helped

Day 4

Image
In the morning today, we focused mainly on trauma makeup (fake cuts, bruises, etc). We started out by watching two tutorials. One was on how to create a realistic bruise and what the lifecycle of a bruise looks like. The second was a tutorial on how to effectively make a black eye. After watching these and discussing some techniques, we had the opportunity to create our own bruises and black eyes. This took up about an hour of our morning. Then we learned how to work with liquid latex and used it to create wounds. After that smaller activity, we were able to create a larger trauma makeup look of our choosing. Down below are some photos of what people chose to do for this section of the class. These looks took up the rest of our morning, leaving us into lunch.  After a nice 45 minute lunch, we began focusing on fantasy makeup. To get inspiration, we started by watching an episode of Dr. Who - a show known for its unique makeup regarding various aliens and illnesses. After the episode wa

Day 3

Image
On Friday we started the day with a group prompt. Ms. Bowman tasked us with taking a fairytale and creating a look for our parnter, we would then apply our makeup look to our partner. Sopiha Watts and Sophia O’Heron chose to do Snowhite and The Evil Queen, using eye brow blocking to create Sophia W’s look and the icicle gell to create Sophia O’s look. The concept was meant to be a combination of the Snow Queen’s story and Snowhite. Sophia W’s look was based off of the Evil Queen from Disney’s animated Snowhite movie, whereas Sophia O’s look is meant to look as if she were froze due to the Snow Queen.  The next concept and group was Kat and Sabrina, who chose to take Hansel and Gretel and reimagine it in a more horror way. The concept was to have Hansel and Gretel turning to candy, as if that was what would happen if they were to stay with the witch. For Kat’s look, Sabrina used scar wax to create gumdrops emerging from the skin and a candycane doing the same. For Sabrina’s look Kat p

Day 2

Today in we learned a lot of things, including an entry on character makeup, how to block out our brows, and we did old makeup on ourselves.  As you can see below Sophia has on character makeup, specifically, the Evil Queen. For this look, she had to block out her eyebrows to achieve the high eyeshadow look and to achieve the new eyebrow shape. To contour her face more like the character Sofia used her contour shade or grey to give the face a more "snatched" look. On the character there is lots of visible blush, therefore, she used that blush over her contour, there was also a choice to do a Tim burton character as you can see below as well on Sabrina. They followed a tutorial on the Tim burton look and it came out amazing!
