Day 5

 We started off the day with a presentation from Ms. Vasquez. She talked about the history of different art styles, the main four being Rocco, Impressionism, Surrealism, and Pop Art. Afterward, each of us chose one of those art styles and created our own makeup look, pulling together inspiration from online; a lot of us use Pinterest in this J-Term when creating inspo boards. The entire morning was allotted for these makeup looks, but some of them took longer than others and had to be finished after lunch. They all turned out amazing, though! 

Sofia Watts wanted to do a rose created from scar wax, as can be seen below. This took them a lot of time and effort, but unfortunately, the scar wax became too heavy to be glued to the face. They ended up painting the rose on their face, and it still worked out wonderfully, even after facing challenges. 

In the afternoon, we watched Dr. Who, as half of the group moved on to Mermaids makeup looks. The episode we watched had a siren, which helped to offer inspiration for their own design. These looks focused on having the colors of pinks, blues, and purples. This is when a few of us got to experiment with stencils, specifically the scales stencils, to provide gills to the mermaid look. Afterward, we watched one episode of Glow Up that focused on looks throughout the decades. This was in preparation for tomorrow's class, where we are going to do research in the different decades of makeup.

  Today, the second to last day of our J-Term, was a really exciting one. We had two ‘final looks’ to complete before the end of the course, so we had some options for how to spend our time. One of our options was to use the morning to do a test run of a look and then execute it in the afternoon, doing the same thing for the other look tomorrow. Another thing we could do was a test run of one look in the morning and one in the afternoon and then do both of the final looks tomorrow. We all chose to experiment with and finish designing look number one first thing in the morning and then take the rest of the day to complete it - planning to repeat the process for look number two tomorrow. As we worked in the morning, we had a documentary about historical makeup playing. The film was really cool and provided a lot of insight as to how people in different eras viewed makeup and what that told us about their societies.   Blog SFX J-Term Day 1, 1/4/23 Today was the first day of the SFX J-Term, where we will learn how to design and apply theatrical and special effects makeup.  Before we could do anything else, we all had to understand the materials we were working with, and how to do a basic full-face make-up look on ourselves. We figured out how to match our skintones and find what contour and highlight color worked best for us, as well as what application style worked best for our face shape. After lunch, we started learning about age makeup. After a few video lessons showing us the basics, we went to the Tinkeria to do eachother’s makeup (another class needed the room we were originally in). Day 2

  Today in we learned a lot of things, including an entry on character makeup, how to block out our brows, and we did old makeup on ourselves.  As you can see below Sophia has on character makeup, specifically, the Evil Queen. For this look, she had to block out her eyebrows to achieve the high eyeshadow look and to achieve the new eyebrow shape. To contour her face more like the character Sofia used her contour shade or grey to give the face a more "snatched" look. On the character there is lots of visible blush, therefore, she used that blush over her contour, there was also a choice to do a Tim burton character as you can see below as well on Sabrina. They followed a tutorial on the Tim burton look and it came out amazing!
