Day 4

In the morning today, we focused mainly on trauma makeup (fake cuts, bruises, etc). We started out by watching two tutorials. One was on how to create a realistic bruise and what the lifecycle of a bruise looks like. The second was a tutorial on how to effectively make a black eye. After watching these and discussing some techniques, we had the opportunity to create our own bruises and black eyes. This took up about an hour of our morning. Then we learned how to work with liquid latex and used it to create wounds. After that smaller activity, we were able to create a larger trauma makeup look of our choosing. Down below are some photos of what people chose to do for this section of the class. These looks took up the rest of our morning, leaving us into lunch.

After a nice 45 minute lunch, we began focusing on fantasy makeup. To get inspiration, we started by watching an episode of Dr. Who - a show known for its unique makeup regarding various aliens and illnesses. After the episode was over, we were given the task of creating a makeup look inspired or based on an alien or character from the show. There are also some pictures of that work attached. We got the whole afternoon to work on this since it was pretty time consuming. By the end of the day, everyone had worked hard on a really cool and unique final product. Overall, it was a very successful day of our SFX J-Term and we had a great time learning about both different types of makeup. I’m looking forward to learning more in the future!
